Meet Carol: Regaining Movement After Years of Pain

Carol, a retiree in her late 60s, had been dealing with arthritis in her knees and hands for more than a decade. At first, it was just a bit of morning stiffness. But over time, simple things like walking to the mailbox or opening a jar became painful and exhausting. She stopped going on her daily walks and even turned down invitations to play with her grandkids.

We showed her how to perform each exercise and monitored her to ensure she used the proper form to avoid extra stress on her joints. We also adjusted the exercises to her ability level, including increasing the difficulty as she improved.

Encouraged Safe Movement

One of the biggest things keeping Carol inactive was fear of pain, not the pain itself. Unfortunately, inactivity can make arthritis worse.

To address these concerns, we showed Carol safe ways to exercise without increasing her symptoms. Because arthritis affected her knee, we also guided her through balance and coordination exercises to reduce her risk of falling.

Carol’s Results: Moving More and Hurting Less

After several months of consistent therapy, Carol was able to return to her daily walks, grip cooking utensils again, and even start taking yoga classes. She still has arthritis, but she’s managing it instead of letting it control her life.
